I have foreseen a Time …
I have foreseen a time when we humans will travel between the planets and later the stars, when we will make our homes in these realms and build our lives, raise our children, and do all the other things that make us human, sentient, sapient, and alive.
The reasons we will travel and move beyond the comfortable confines of Earth are the same as have caused us to migrate from place to place on Earth, to travel out of Africa, across the continents, across the ancient land bridge, and across the oceans taking our chances with uncertain weather and new climates we did not evolve to live in. We will go for adventure, profit, freedom (personal, political and religious), love, and survival (personal and of our species).

As I enter a new phase of my life, wishing it had been possible for me to be one of those future adventurers, I will explore in fiction what these various permutations of the future might be like. Living in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as I do, I must extrapolate from what we know today to what we might know in the futures I will suppose. I do know that we will still be human (more on evolution and genetic engineering later) with all the assets and foibles humans have always had. We will take our prejudices, misconceptions, courage, fears, great questions, and loves with us. They will grow and change in that new environment. I also know that even though our current understanding of our universe may be incomplete and even out right wrong at times, it will be our science and its child technology that will make this all possible. So even though I may extrapolate from our current understanding, that extrapolation will be based in science.
In making these explorations of the future I do not go alone. I am very lucky to have my close partner who will join me as I explore and I hope to bring you, as my reader, along as well.
