Thera 4: Discernment

A Science Fiction story by Ron Evans and Gina Bennett

“Thera 4: Discernment” is our first attempt at writing a science fiction story.  You’ll note that we do not assume any FTL drive or other ‘magical’ technologies.  This is on purpose because we want the science and technology in this story to be at least plausible (we hope).  That means we are probably underestimating the technologies that will exist a couple hundred years in our future.  We do assume some scientific principles that are not accepted by the scientific community (not yet), but we feel there is at least some evidence to suggest these extrapolations from ‘today’s’ science might be reasonable.  We’ve also assumed the Janite Sentience Scale to give our explorers a handle on just how sentient a life form is.   There may be good scientific reasons for such a scale to be devised, but when it comes to using it to determine the fate of a planet it becomes a controversial idea at best as our characters point out.

A beta version of our book is now available. If you think you might like to beta read our book, see the post: “Beta Readers Requested” posted on April 28th or send an e-mail to scienceanywhere@gmail.com.

Thanks and enjoy,

 Ron
